There are many nonprofit organizations in Bradenton and the surrounding area. Each one is doing incredible work to support our community by helping those less fortunate, promoting the arts, providing education, and more.

During our nonprofit spotlight series, we’ll highlight information about a different local nonprofit each week. This week, we were thrilled to chat with Avenue941, Inc. to learn more about their mission and how we can help. Here’s what they had to say.

Can you tell us a little bit about your mission and how you help to support our community?

Avenue941 is an academically-focused, spiritually-driven after-school program for K-12 students. We exist to empower churches to open their doors throughout the week to support the next generation by achieving academic progress, building confidence, growing spiritually, and improving behavior.

Who do you serve and why?

We serve students in Manatee County from Title 1 schools of all grades K-12.
Our primary focus is students who are from single-parent homes, low-income homes, foster homes, and students who struggle academically.

Can you tell us about one of your key programs?

In our High School Internship Program, high schoolers in 11th or 12th grade can get paid to help mentor younger students and aid them in their academics. The high school intern acts as a support role for the site facilitator at each of our locations.

During the Spring Semester, our Interns are partnered with someone in their career field of choice to shadow them for an entire day. We value creating an environment where the interns can grow in leadership and character while they lead lessons and help younger students.

What’s the best way our community can help?

We currently have 14 locations and are always adding more, so we need volunteers willing to do homework with students. Our goal is to partner volunteers and students together at the location nearest them geographically.

We need sponsors to support our work – it costs about $100/mo per student to provide 8 hours/week of support. – And we need prayer partners too for each student!
