For Dr. Richard Bindernagel, one of the most rewarding parts of being a dermatologist is telling a patient that their skin cancer has been completely removed. For his wife, Dr. Constance Bindernagel, it's seeing a child safely pass a food allergy challenge after years of having to avoid certain foods.
It's moments like these that make their work so meaningful. And when the husband-and-wife physician team decided to open their own medical practice, they wanted to create an environment where they could spend more time with patients and provide the personalized care they believe everyone deserves.
That vision became Harmony Allergy & Dermatology, a new family-owned practice offering dermatology, Mohs surgery, and allergy and immunology care for children and adults, all under one roof.
The practice is now open at 5959 17th Ave. W. in Bradenton's Blake Park.
Building a Different Kind of Medical Practice
After working in traditional insurance-based healthcare settings, both doctors had experienced the challenges of short appointments and limited time for patient conversations. They wanted to create a practice where they could spend more time getting to know their patients, answering questions, and helping them understand their treatment options.
“We wanted to create the kind of practice we envisioned as physicians and as a family,” said Drs. Richard and Constance Bindernagel. “We believe patients deserve time with their physicians, clear answers to their questions, and a better understanding of their treatment options and costs.”
At Harmony Allergy & Dermatology, patients see one of the two physicians at every visit, and no referral is needed. The practice also publishes its prices online, so patients know what to expect before scheduling.
Harmony accepts Original Medicare for eligible covered services and offers direct-pay care for other patients. The practice does not bill commercial health insurance or Medicare Advantage plans.
Two Doctors, Two Specialties, One Location
Dr. Richard Bindernagel, DO, MBA, is board-certified in dermatology and micrographic dermatologic surgery. He treats a broad range of skin concerns from acne, eczema, and psoriasis to complex skin cancers. His services include skin cancer screenings, Mohs micrographic surgery, pediatric dermatology, and select cosmetic treatments.
Dr. Constance Bindernagel, DO, MBA, is board-certified in pediatrics as well as allergy and immunology. Her fellowship training at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, through the University of South Florida, had a strong focus on pediatric food allergy management and is one of her key areas of interest. She provides care for children and adults dealing with food and environmental allergies, asthma, eczema, chronic hives, and immune system disorders. Her services include allergy testing, supervised food challenges, and allergy immunotherapy.
Having both specialties in one office offers another benefit. Skin conditions and immune system concerns often overlap, and patients who need both types of evaluations are able to receive coordinated, physician-led care in one place. Instead of navigating a fragmented system, both specialists work to provide a more complete understanding of your health, helping you move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and continuity of care.
For the Bindernagels, bringing their specialties together is also about creating a practice where they can get to know their patients and become part of the local community.
“By bringing dermatology and allergy and immunology together, we hope to build lasting relationships with patients and families while providing specialized care close to home,” the Bindernagels said.
