When mother-daughter team Destini and Renea Palen played their first escape room, they were hooked! After moving to Bradenton at the peak of the pandemic, they decided to turn their dream of creating their own escape room into a reality.
Two weeks ago, they opened Intense Escape, the area’s first horror-based escape room. If you’re looking for a thrill, you won’t want to miss this. We guarantee it’s an adventure you won’t soon forget!
There are currently three rooms available — one that’s family-friendly and two that are not for the faint of heart. Here’s a closer look at what you can expect.
Room 1: Jungle Fever
If you’re looking for a family-friendly option, you’ll want to try “Jungle Fever.” In this room, you’ll be immersed in a world where a mysterious disease is threatening to wipe out the planet. No masks or sanitizer will save you here!
You’ll need to go deep into the jungle searching for the antidote while deciphering the clues your scientist-friend has left behind for you. Can you find the antidote in time to save the human population? Or will you die trying?
You’ll have 60 minutes to find what you’re looking for and escape!
During this fun adventure, you can expect to encounter dim lighting and possible fog effects.
Room 2: The Basement
If you’re feeling brave, you’ll definitely want to visit their second room – The Basement. Fair warning, though, this going to be an intense experience!
During this adventure, you’ll discover that you’ve been kidnapped by a cannibalistic serial killer who has a taste for human flesh. He’s created a sick and twisted game in his deceased mother’s basement. Fail to show your intelligence and he’s ready to slaughter you. As you try to find your way out, don’t be too noisy — he likes to stalk his victims!
This room is not recommended for children under the age of 12. You can expect to experience loud noises, flashing lights, and jump scares during this game.
Room 3: The Crazies
The third room, The Crazies just opened yesterday. This is also not for the faint of heart and is designed to be their most challenging escape room.
During this game, you and your friends are doing a research project on a subject with multiple personalities. Suddenly, you wake up chained to the wall in a mysterious bedroom where it reeks of toxic gas.
Race against the clock to escape. If the gas doesn’t kill you in 60 minutes, the latest personality certainly will!
This game is also recommended for those 12 and older. It includes jump scares, loud noises, and flashing lights.

If you’re bringing children with you or you’re worried the experience will be too intense, let them know! There are some things they can do to tame it down and make it (slightly!) less scary. It’s also important to note that you’re never actually locked in the room. You can leave any time if you have an emergency, need to use the restroom, or it gets too intense for you.
