Modest Gardens: Your Friendly Neighborhood Plant Shop

Ashley Brown is a professional gardener with over 18 years of experience. Born and raised in Bradenton, she loves sharing her passion for plants.

Ashley opened Modest Gardens so she could use her skills to serve the community while working from home. While it may be a small, home-based business, she sees a steady flow of regulars and out-of-towners who come to check out her selection of hand-picked plants.

Despite not having a large retail front, she’s curated an excellent selection ranging from full-sun outdoor plants to low-light indoor plants and even a selection of edible plants for urban gardening. With far less overhead than most plant nurseries, she’s able to keep everything very reasonably priced. In addition to gorgeous plants, Ashley and her husband also create and sell homemade plant stands. But, you may have trouble getting your hands on one – these popular items sell out quickly!

Plant-Based Learning and Events

In addition to being one of the best plant nurseries in Bradenton, Ashley also hosts fun classes and events at Modest Gardens. Recently she hosted “Midsummer’s Eve in the Garden.” The extended-hours event featured nighttime plant shopping and lots of gorgeous photo ops. Ashley served ice cold kombucha and water, and Love’s Parden Yoga and Boutique was also there to share their goods.

She also just opened presale tickets for Guided Potting Class & Mimosas! There are two dates to choose from, August 13th and August 20th. Both classes start at 9 am. Space is limited to 10 tickets per class. With Modest Garden’s not-so-modest growth recently, those tickets will go fast! Send her a Facebook message to learn more.

Even if you don’t come to a class, Ashley is always willing to teach people how to care for the plants they buy. Her passion is obvious with every interaction – she loves giving advice and welcomes any questions. The connections she makes with her customers are so genuine that she often gets photos of visitors bringing their plants on the plane when they fly home!
