For Ashley Ciferno and Oscar Almazan, upcycling, thrifting, and re-using items has always been a way of life. The owners of the newly opened Segunda Vida (which means Second Life) have channeled their passion for minimizing residential and corporate waste into a new and exciting retail space.
While they were originally located inside the Red Barn Flea Market, when this new space became available, they knew it was the perfect opportunity to take things to the next level.
The shop, which is located in the up-and-coming Old Manatee Village, is a virtual wonderland of curated upcycled and vintage items. Ashley truly has a gift for thinking outside the box and being able to envision a new life for used items. She often finds entirely new purposes or stages them in ways that most people may not have thought of.
When you visit, you’ll find everything from furniture and decor to rescued plants. And while the shopping experience is enough of a reason to visit, Ashley also has other plans. She believes one of the best ways to keep things out of the landfill is to teach others how to upcycle in a fun and unique way.
She looks forward to sharing the JOY of recycling through exciting educational and community events. From clothing swaps to classes, you can expect to see a lot more from her over the coming months.
When asked about the purpose behind their new venture, Ashley said, “We live to inspire a second life for everything and everyone. Through recycling, upcycling, conscious choices, artful expressions, and meaningful connections, we can continue to keep planet Earth our beautiful home.”
As they get settled in their new location, Ashley says they are thankful for their incredibly supportive neighbors to the amazing amount of community support they’ve received.
