It’s hard enough for shelter animals to find their fur-ever homes, but when those animals have special needs, the odds are definitely stacked against them. One local group, called Special Needs Pet Adoptions of Gulf Coast, Florida, is working hard to help them! This small, volunteer-based organization is passionate about their mission.
Founders Sue Kolze, Cari Robaldo, and Lisa Hevesy are all long-time animal rescue volunteers. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, they saw a critical need. With all adoption events canceled and most rescue groups forced to limit access to adoptable pets, those with physical problems or health issues were often passed over.
This is when they decided to come together to help provide additional exposure for adoptable cats and dogs with special needs.
Special Needs Pet Adoptions of Gulf Coast, Florida works directly with 501c3 animal shelters and rescue groups to help spread the word about the special needs pets that are currently available for adoption. The shelters provide them with photos and a bio, and they share the information on their Facebook and Instagram pages. The service is free and the work they do is pretty special!
