Sweet Deli Cafe: New Owners Bring Delicious Deli Sandwiches and Waffles to Downtown Bradenton

It seems that more eateries keep popping up on every block of the Historic Downtown District in Bradenton, and I can’t wait to visit them all. This week, we visited the Sweet Deli Cafe on 13th Street West – one block south of Manatee Avenue, next to JT Bikes.

Sweet Deli Cafe is a welcome addition, with its large selection of deli sandwiches, bagels, specialty coffees and teas, salads, and smoothies served during breakfast and lunch hours.

The new owners, James and Kristen, are also offering delicious waffles and flatbread pizzas. Soon, the deli will undergo another transformation to give it a local flair with the addition of pictures of historic Bradenton.

James and Kristen were previously in the financial industry, but remote work brought them to Bradenton where they have family and past history. They both have some restaurant experience, even though this is their first time owning a restaurant.

They said that the opportunity came up to buy this business and decided that it was time for them to leave their corporate jobs behind. They are both very excited by what will become their vision of the Sweet Deli Cafe.

The menu features a lineup of specialty coffees including lattes, cappuccino, and espresso. You can also enjoy an iced matcha or chai latte as well as tea and energy drinks.

Your breakfast selections will include Biscotti, Sweet Danishes, Belgian Waffles, Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Bagels, or Breakfast in a Box (breakfast sandwich or wrap).

Their lunch menu has many delicious items. This is where the deli sandwiches shine! All sandwiches are made to order and in a selection of fresh breads, croissants, bagels, or a wrap. The Roast Beef, Cuban, Gyro sandwich, and Ultimate Trio are all great excellent options.

Paninis are now my favorite items from their menu. These include Chicken Pesto, Corned Beef and Swiss, and a Tomato Mozzarella panini.

Salads for dine-in or grab-and-go are bestsellers. They’re made fresh every day using local vendors for their greens and vegetables.

When I spoke to James and Kristen, the first thing they mentioned to me was that quality ingredients are a top priority for them. They only use Boars Head meats for their sandwiches and locally baked breads.

Sweet Deli Cafe offers indoor and outdoor seating as well as delivery options. They’re open Monday – Friday between 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. They just added Saturday hours between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm.
