Mother-and-son team Terri and Dimitri Syros were in the midst of preparing to open their new restaurant, The Breakfast Company, when the COVID-19 pandemic ground things to a halt. Although this presented a new set of challenges, they didn’t let it deter them. Instead, the family pulled together and created an unforgettable dining experience!
Since it opened in October of 2020, this daytime restaurant and bakery has been building a large following of loyal customers — and we can see why! From their display case full of mouth-watering baked goods to the warm, comfortable vibe, there’s so much to love about this modern family restaurant.
According to Dimitri, the family decided to open the restaurant as a tribute to his grandfather, George Soublis, who founded El Greco in Sarasota in 1990. It’s no surprise, then, that the menu features family recipes like homemade pita bread, tzatziki sauce, and the original El Greco Famous Greek Dressing.
The entire operation truly is a family affair. Terri and her twin sister Patti Corcoran are the masterminds behind the bakery while cousin Vicki Randenburg works as a manager and other family members work as servers, cashiers, and hostesses.
Dimitri, a graduate of Riverview High School, is currently commuting between Bradenton and Miami, where he’s attending law school. Every day they’re open, Terri arrives at the restaurant by 3 am to start preparing her delicious baked goods. While it’s a lot of hard work, they say it’s well worth it.
Good Vibes & Family Values
Dimitri says their restaurant’s philosophy is based on good vibes, family values, and a personal touch. Whether they’re related or not, every staff member here is treated like family.
The restaurant’s motto, “Stay Strong. Work Hard. Family First,” is printed on the wall behind “Pappou’s Table.”
Another tribute to their grandfather, this large wooden table was custom-built by Terri’s fiancée Troy Kong. After their shift, the entire crew often gather here to share a meal together.
Bradenton’s Best New Restaurant
The Syros family is nothing if not humble. They say they never expected the buzz their restaurant created and were pleasantly surprised to win “Best New Restaurant” in the Bradenton Herald’s 2021 People Choice Awards.
Some of the restaurant’s best sellers include Terri’s giant cinnamon rolls and Patti’s signature brownies. Other popular menu items include the Gyro, Florida French Toast, and Short Ribs Eggs Benedict.
The Breakfast Company is located at 7246 55th Ave E, Bradenton, FL 34203. They’re open Tuesday through Sunday from 7 am to 2 pm.
