When owner Theresa (“Tess”) Muench decided to open a vintage shop of her own, she had some idea what she was getting into. After all, she had spent many years in the vintage, resale, and consignment industry. However, she had no idea that the COVID-19 pandemic was about to put a wrench in her plans.
As she was busy revamping the almost 8,000 square foot space, the CDC informed her that she would be unable to open due to new restrictions. Some time went by before they finally got the okay, and by then the entire world had changed.
Despite the setback, The Cat’s Meow: A Vintage Marketplace finally opened its doors in May of 2020. Today, the space is home to over 35 vendors! The store, which was once a roller skating rink, carries an eclectic mix of thrift finds, antiques, clothing, artwork, handmade goods, coastal decor, vinyl records, garden accessories, and more. You never know what you’re going to find here, and the shopping experience is different every time.
Muench, a long-time Bradenton resident, says she owes much of her success to the support of her incredible vendors, who have become much like a second family. In addition, many of the other area artists and shop owners also reached out to offer support and advice during her first year in business. For this, she says, she is incredibly grateful.
The Cat’s Meow is located at 4307 26th St W, Bradenton, FL 34205, near the intersection of Cortez Rd. W. and 26th Street West. They’re open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and are sometimes open on other days for special events.
Want to enjoy even more shopping? Stop by on Saturday, June 19th from 10 am to 5 pm for their Pop-Up Tent Event. All of the indoor vendors will be on-site as well as a whole new group of vendors outdoors for your shopping pleasure!
There are also a few more spots available for long-term indoor vendors and plenty of opportunities for outdoor vendors during the monthly tent events. To learn more, give Tess a call at (941) 782-8883 during the shop’s open hours or send her a message through The Cat’s Meow’s Facebook page.
Follow the Cat’s Meow on Facebook to keep up with all the latest news and announcements. When you visit (and we hope you will!) don’t forget to tell them you heard about it on Discover Bradenton!
