It’s hard to believe May is already here! While the temperatures are starting to rise, there are still a ton of fun things to do this month. From Manatee’s 1st Ever Taco Fest to live music, fishing tournaments, poker runs, and more – there truly is something for everyone to enjoy.

1. Maker Space Open House – Downtown Bradenton Library

Wednesday, May 4th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Manatee County Public Library: 1301 Barcarrota Blvd Bradenton, FL 34205

Maker Space lets families of all ages experience hands-on learning including 3D printing, button making, and 3D pen activities. There’s also going to be a fun Rainbow Windsock craft and informational demonstrations featuring Robots that move due to color programming.

2. Beach Market at Coquina Beach

Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 2 pm

Enjoy an afternoon of visiting the beautiful Beach Market at Coquina Beach Park. Relax and stroll around the stunning white sand, overlooking the view of the Gulf, where you can purchase some great food, visit unique vendors, and more!

The Market features everything from fresh produce, jewelry, and arts and crafts, to pottery, beauty items, and much more. If you haven’t visited the Market recently, you truly are missing out!


3. Lilly Pulitzer Luncheon & Fashion Show

Friday, May 6th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
Bradenton Country Club: 4646 9th Ave W Bradenton, FL 34209

Show your support for Foundation for Dreams and Dream Oaks Camp by attending their upcoming Lilly Pulitzer Luncheon & Fashion show! Come and mingle while browsing through pop-up shops from local boutiques and businesses.

You’ll enjoy a delicious lunch while watching the fashion show, which will feature some of their campers and counselors. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, a Gift Basket raffle, and much more! Tickets start at $75 and you can purchase them here.


4. May Artwalk #SeenInTheVota

Friday, May 6th from 6 pm to 9:30 pm and Saturday, May 7th from 11 am to 4 pm

Start the month off by taking a stroll through the May Artwalk at Bradenton’s Village of the Arts.

This month’s theme is #SeenInTheVota and will offer exciting opportunities to explore the local galleries and shops, enjoy delicious food, live music, and everything VOTA has to offer. 5. Music in the Park

Friday, May 6th from 6 pm to 8 pm
Bradenton Riverwalk Pavilion

Due to one event being rained out last month, we’ll have the chance to enjoy one last Music in the Park this season! Catch James Tyrone Band/Soul on May 6 at the Pavilion at Rossi Park on the Bradenton Riverwalk.

Everyone is invited to come to this free event. Bring your own blanket and chairs. Furry companions on leashes are also welcome!


6. Kentucky Derby Party at Mattison’s

Saturday, May 7th
Mattison’s Riverwalk Grille: 101 Riverfront Blvd Ste 120, Bradenton, FL 34205

Come out to Mattison’s Riverwalk Grille on Saturday the 7th for a fun and festive Kentucky Derby party! Races will be televised all day, and the main race begins at 6:57 pm

There will be Derby-themed food and drink specials and a hat contest at 6:30 pm with a $50 Mattison’s gift card as the prize. Reservations are recommended, so give them a call at 941-896-9660.


7. Free Comic Book Day

Calling all comic book fans! Join Descent Into Gaming in celebrating Free Comic Book Day! They’ll be offering free comics (1 issue per family while supplies last). There will also be giveaways, discounts, and maybe even some cosplays. If you’re into comics, you’ll definitely want to check this out.


8. Manatee’s 1st Ever Taco Fest

Saturday, May 7th from 12 pm to 6 pm
Manatee County Fairgrounds: 1402 14th Avenue West Palmetto, FL 34221

If you love tacos (who doesn’t?!) then Manatee’s 1st Annual Taco Fest is definitely the event for you! This event will showcase over 150 of Tri-State Area’s Best Taco Producers together with a variety of Specialty Cocktails and entertainment.

This is a family-friendly event with inflatables, face painting, and more for everyone to enjoy. General admission is $10 and kids under 10 years old go in for free.


9. 35th Annual Jerry Hill Memorial Kids Fishing Tournament

Saturday, May 7th from 7 am to 11 am

Bring your kids out to the 35th Annual Jerry Hill Memorial Fishing Kids Fishing Tournament! This catch-and-release tournament is FREE for everyone to join.

There will be free shirts for all registered participants and prizes given to winners of every age group based on the longest fish caught and released. This is always a popular event, with close to 200 participants each year. Registration is required – you can sign up here.


10. Florida Highwaymen Artist Show and Sale

Saturday, May 7th from 10 am to 3 pm
Palmetto Historical Park: 515 10th Ave W Palmetto, FL 34221

The original Florida Highwaymen Artists Art Show and Sale is back at Palmetto Historical Park! It will feature incredible artists including Curtis Arnett, Al Black, Kandie Ingram (showing the work of her mother), Mary Ann Carroll, R.L. Lewis, Doretha Hair Truesdell, Roderick Hair – and more!

Vintage works by Alfred Hair, the Newton Brothers, Livingston Roberts, John Maynor, Robert Butler, and more will be available for viewing and purchase. In addition, the Palmetto Historical Park and Manatee County Agricultural Museum will be open for visitors.


11. Starry Night Astronomy

Enjoy a night of gazing at the stars at the Robinson Preserve Expansion! This will be an astronomical extravaganza with local astronomers ready with telescopes.

Learn how to identify these heavenly bodies, so you can stargaze at home too. This free event is suitable for attendees of all ages.


12. “FROM Bits & Pieces” Workshop

Join Blessed and Distressed Vintage for an evening of fun and take home your own one-of-a-kind concrete creation. There will be snacks and wine samples with opportunities for ordering.

13. Corks & Forks Winemaker’s Dinner

Join Mean Dean’s Local Kitchen for a Corks & Forks Winemaker’s Dinner, sponsored by the Sarasota-Manatee Originals. The dinner will feature guest Gerald L. “Jerry” Baxter from Alexander Valley Vineyards.

Purchase a drink, and you’ll receive two succulents, a pot, and decorating tools so you can make your own succulent arrangement! 15. AMI Pivateers Shiprek Poker Run

Sunday, May 15th from 9 am to 5 pm
Multiple Locations

Everyone is welcome to join Anna Maria Island Privateers for their Shiprek Poker Run! Bring your bike, jeep, bus, corvette, or any personal vehicle and experience the fun.

Registration will start at 9 AM at Peggy’s Corral. The cost is $20 for the 1st hand and $10 for additional hands. Stops include the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2756, Compass @ Margaritaville, Tarpon Bay Grill & Tiki Bar, and the Palmetto Moose #2117.

17. 6th Annual Adopt-A-Palooza and Pet Expo

Saturday, May 21st from 10 am to 4 pm
Bradenton Area Convention Center: 1 Haben Blvd, Palmetto, FL 34221

The annual Adopt-A-Palooza & Pet Expo is back! The Friends of Manatee County Animal Services (FOMCAS) will be hosting the largest one-day adoption and expo-style event in Manatee County. There will be over 100 adoptable puppies, dogs, cats, and kittens from Manatee County Animal Services (MCAS), local shelters, and animal rescues – all under one roof.

The family-friendly event will include over 25 retail vendors selling a variety of pet products. There will also be a free pet vaccine and microchip clinic from 11 am to 2 pm (first come, first served).


18. Big Brothers and Big Sisters Movie Knight at Knight’s Towing

Wednesday, May 25th

Come join Knight’s Towing and other community businesses as they come together to raise donations for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. There will be a movie for the kids and food vendors will be on site. This is a FREE event, though donations are welcome!


19. Sip n Wick Candle Making

Friday, May 27th from 6 pm to 8 pm

We are excited to introduce to you the newest SipNWick Candle Class at Gypsea Soul Studios! This is a fun, instructor-led class where you get to “SIP” while you “WICK” and make your own one-of-a-kind candle.
