In-Home Care Options for Veterans

In this month’s edition of Tips from the Pros, we were excited to catch up with Jonathan Marsh, owner of Home Helpers. Here’s what he had to say…

When I started Home Helpers Home Care of Bradenton in 2015, I was especially committed to providing care for veterans. My grandfather, father, step-father, and many members of my family are veterans, and I hold a deep respect for those who have served our country.

Since our inception, we’ve been dedicated to helping veterans receive the in-home care they deserve, ensuring they have access to essential services and support.

Over the years, I’ve found that many veterans aren’t aware of the benefits available to them for in-home care. I make it a point to share this information whenever possible, and I want to take this opportunity to help spread the word about two key programs that allow veterans to receive in-home care at no cost.

1. VA Community Care Network (VA CCN)

The VA Community Care Network (VA CCN) is a program that connects veterans with healthcare providers, including in-home care services, outside of the VA system. Veterans can access services like homemaker, home health aide, and respite care through community-based providers, ensuring they receive the personalized support they need. The process involves being evaluated by the VA to determine care needs, and services are based on individual requirements, not financial standing.

To help veterans navigate this process, we’ve created a detailed guide with step-by-step instructions on how to get care set up through the VA CCN. You can access the guide and other resources here: Community Care for Veterans.

2. VA Aid & Attendance

The VA Aid & Attendance Pension benefit is designed for wartime veterans and their surviving spouses who require assistance with daily activities due to non-service-related disabilities. This benefit can be used to pay for various types of care, including in-home care, assisted living, and nursing home care.

Eligibility criteria include service during wartime, medical conditions that require assistance, and meeting certain financial guidelines. Unlike VA CCN, Aid & Attendance provides direct financial assistance to the veteran or their surviving spouse, which can be applied to the cost of in-home care. This means veterans can use this benefit to cover care needs not met by other programs.

Eligible for Both?

It’s possible for veterans to qualify for both the VA CCN and Aid & Attendance benefits simultaneously, which can provide comprehensive support for those needing extensive care.

If you’re a veteran or you know one, I encourage you to explore these programs. For more information, feel free to reach out to us at Home Helpers Home Care of Bradenton at (941) 499-5946.

We’re here to help, and it’s our honor to support veterans in accessing the care they deserve.
