If you’e been searching for incredible, fresh, and completely authentic Mexican food in Bradenton, you can stop — because we’ve found it! The Spot Tacos & More, which was previously located in the outdoor area of The Red Barn Flea Market, has a new location and an expanded menu.
We recently met with owner Laura Betancourt to learn more about the restaurant, the menu, and her philosophy when it comes to creating an authentic dining experience that keeps her guests returning again and again. Â
The menu features all of the classics you would expect, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, flautas, gorditas, and tostadas. Choose from a variety of meats including carnitas (marinated pork), pastor (seasoned pork), asada (steak), tinga (chicken), and barbacoa (shredded beef). Feeling adventurous? You can also order your meals made with oreja (pork ear) or lengua (tongue) on Saturdays and Sundays.Â
If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll also love the smoothies, milkshakes, and fresh-made, delicious churros. Laura also makes homemade aguas frescas (fresh waters) in exciting flavors like pina and horchata every day and rotating flavors including lime, pineapple, cantaloupe, tamarind, and more.Â
The Spot also serves certain dishes only specific days. For example, Laura’s traditional Mexican pork stew (pozole) is only served on Thursdays, and you can only get enchiladas on Fridays. On Saturday and Sunday the menu expands even further with dishes including menudo (another type of Mexican stew), elote preparado (corn on the cob), and Mexican fruit cups.Â
Laura says she does this to ensure that she’s always serving only the freshest possible food. Her family often eats meals together at the restaurant, so she makes all of her dishes just as she would if she were cooking for her family at home. You won’t find any canned beans or sub-par ingredients here. Laura uses traditional family recipes and serves dishes the same way they’re served in her parent’s home town in Mexico.Â
The 4,700 square-foot dining room is large enough to accommodate plenty of guests during their busy times and it includes a separate room that’s perfect for larger parties. They also offer take-out and on-site catering. You can sometimes find them at events like the recent Blues Festival and ArtSlam, which is coming up in downtown Bradenton on March 7th.Â
The Spot Tacos & More is located at 2303 1st St, Bradenton, FL 34208 (see map), not far from The Red Barn. They’re open from 11 am until 9 pm Tuesday through Saturday and 10 am until 5 pm on Sundays (closed on Mondays).
