There Is Someone: A Bradenton Local’s Mission to Help Caregivers for People Living with Cognitive Decline

Caring for a loved one with cognitive decline comes with unique challenges, especially in emergencies. When caregivers are unable to communicate important details, or when a person with dementia wanders off, identifying them and getting them help can be difficult.

Recognizing these very real caregiver concerns, the nonprofit DementAbiltiy has recently released the There Is Someone Identification Project.

A Simple System with Impactful Results

The project revolves around a simple but effective tool: a numbered bracelet linked to a secure online registry. Caregivers can register their loved ones’ information — such as name, medical concerns, emergency contacts, and even helpful behavioral notes — on a private website.

In an emergency, first responders can access this database by entering the unique number found on the bracelet, ensuring they have the right information to provide immediate, informed assistance.

The project’s goal is to reduce hospital admissions, prevent combative situations, and help families and caregivers feel more secure.

How it Works

The There Is Someone project offers a structured approach to emergency identification. Key features include:

  • Numbered Bracelets: Each bracelet has a unique identification number that links to a private online registry.
  • Secure Online Registry: Caregivers can input critical details such as names, addresses, emergency contacts, medical concerns, and behavioral notes.
  • First Responder Access: Only verified emergency personnel can retrieve information using the bracelet’s number.
  • Advanced Security Measures: All data is encrypted using AES-256 encryption and SSL/TLS protocols, ensuring privacy and protection against unauthorized access.
  • 24/7 Monitoring and Support: The system includes real-time monitoring, logging, and help desk assistance for authorized personnel.

Who Can Benefit

While the initial rollout focuses on individuals with dementia and their caregivers, the There Is Someone project aims to serve a broader range of individuals, including:

  • Seniors living independently
  • Adults with medical conditions or disabilities
  • Caregivers looking for added safety measures
  • Single parents and guardians of children
  • Pet owners who want to ensure their animals are cared for in case of an emergency
  • Those living alone without nearby family support

By expanding the reach, the project seeks to create a nationwide network that offers a reliable safety net in times of crisis.

How to Get Yours

Each bracelet costs $10 and requires a $100 annual subscription, which includes updates and support. To learn more, visit ThereIsSomeone.com. While you’re there, you can also join the waitlist for your bracelet. Once you sign up, someone will reach out via your preferred contact method.
