There are few places that create a great impression from the first encounter – and this is one of those places. B & B Chophouse & Market is nestled in Lakewood Ranch’s San Marco Plaza, along with Cassariano Italian Eatery, Via la Casa Coffee & Wine and D’Lites Ice Cream Shoppe.
The space features both a butcher’s market and an upscale restaurant, making it an excellent choice for both sit-down meals and delicious foods to prepare at home.
The Butcher’s market offers ready-made meals and meat packages that include their ½ lb. Steak Burgers in individual servings and 4-packs; Thick Cut Bacon; Top Sirloin Steaks; Filet Mignon in 7 oz., 8 oz., and 10 oz. cuts; Ribeye Steak and other select meats.
At the market, you will also find side dishes for “grab and go”. These range from Caesar and Chopped Salads to Crab Bisque and their incredibly delicious AuGratin Potatoes. Their market offerings mirror a lot of their restaurant menu items, packaged for you to enjoy at home.
The restaurant space houses a Bourbon Bar and Saloon that offers a selection of over 100 bourbons, whiskeys and has live music on the weekends. They have a full bar and a craft cocktail selection that has proven to be one of my favorites.
B&B Chophouse is a sister restaurant to Bridge Street Bistro on Anna Maria Island.
A friendly management team and staff is evident from the moment you walk in. General Manager Kit Bradman has a welcoming smile on every visit. They always recommend reservations but they’ll do whatever they can to accommodate walk-ins.
I suggest starting your dinner or brunch with a cocktail or neat drink from their ample list.
A few cocktails I recommend include the Blueberry & Bones Gimlet, which is served with a blueberry ice cube, and the Blood Orange Cosmo. Forget the traditional Cosmo, this is at another level.
Fresh bread comes to the table warm with specialty whipped butters made from scratch.
I don’t think you can pass on the appetizers, particularly the Bourbon Lacquered Bacon – it’s a real treat. It features four or five thick cuts of thick bacon with a baked-in bourbon glaze.
I also love the Steak & Egg Carpaccio, Wedge Salad and the Duck Wings (when offered). These are good size servings and enough to share.
The steaks and entrées give you many options, whether you want a lighter dish or something to fill you up after a busy day.
One of our visits was all about the steaks.
We enjoyed a Filet Mignon and a Ribeye. I wouldn’t pass on their AuGratin Potatoes, but you can choose from many other side dishes such as Grilled Asparagus, Creamed Spinach, Truffle Fries, Risotto or Lobster Mac & Cheese.
There’s also a huge variety of other entrées on the menu, such as Seared Scallops & Bacon; Rockefeller Pasta with shrimp and scallops; Chophouse Meatloaf, a mammoth ½ lb. Steak Burger and Buttermilk Fried Chicken.
I will try the fried chicken next but I’ve had a few other entrées already. I’ve found great quality and taste in everything that I’ve had there so far.
I never leave without dessert and this restaurant has no shortage of them.
There’s always a “specialty” flavor, Crème Brûlée; Campfire S’mores; Homemade Ice Cream or Bourbon Bread Pudding. After dinner cocktails include a Chocolate Martini and Kentucky Bourbon Coffee.
