Sunshine Swimming Offers Free Swim Lessons for Manatee County Kids This Summer

Did you know that drowning is the leading cause of death in children aged 1 to 4 years old and remains one of the top five causes of unintentional injury-related deaths from birth to 5 years old? Amanda Girton, owner of Sunshine Swimming is working to change this.

This summer, thanks to a generous grant from Step Into Swim, you can register for FREE swim lessons for your child! The program is designed primarily for underserved students in the community who may not have had access to paid swim lessons for a variety of reasons. It’s currently open for registration. Here’s what you need to know.

Free Summer Lessons at GT Bray

The Summer Session kicks off in June. Lessons are held on Wednesdays and Fridays in the Pool at GT Bray Park in West Bradenton (5502 33rd Ave Dr W, Bradenton, FL 34209). There are two classes available: one at 10 am for children aged 3-5 years old and another at 10:30 am for children aged 6-8 years old. Additional sessions may be added as needed. If your child is 5 years old and cannot swim at all, you should register for the 10 am class.

Important Details:

  • Available to children aged 3-14
  • Weekly 30-minute lessons for 2 weeks
  • Wednesdays and Fridays, June and July
  • Adult is required to attend
  • Photos will be taken
  • Parent/Child Class Available

The deadline is one week before the first session date, and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, you must complete the Waiver Form (one per family) and Registration Form (one per swimmer). Spots may fill up quickly, but Amanda is working hard to expand the program and offer it in more communities as soon as possible.

Private, In-Home Swim Lessons

If spots fill up or you prefer private lessons, Sunshine Swimming can come to you!

Sunshine Swimming offers convenient, private swim lessons right at your home or community pool. This flexibility makes it easy to fit swimming lessons into your busy schedule. Lessons are available Monday to Saturday, catering to everyone from babies as young as six months to adults. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, Amanda provides personalized instruction to meet individual needs.

The lessons are priced at $50 for a 30-minute session or $80 for a 60-minute session. Instead of forcing you into a package, they allow you to choose the number of lessons that work for you.
