Painting with a Purpose: A Fun New Twist on Giving

Painting with a Twist

The holidays are a great time to start thinking about giving back to your community, and Painting with a Twist is making it fun!

Studio owners Hope Kinney and Sheri Penxa regularly hold “Painting with a Purpose” classes at both their Bradenton and Sarasota locations. During these events, participants (affectionately called “Twisters”) can enjoy a fun date night or girls night out while also supporting their favorite local nonprofits. Every month, the studio gives 50% of the Painting with a Purpose class proceeds to the chosen organization. They also host other events throughout the year, giving back 20% to 40% of class proceeds.

Over the past seven years, Kinney and Penxa have donated over $110,000 to organizations like Manatee Children’s Services, Friends of Manatee County Animal Services (FOMCAS), Healthy Families, Blessing Bag Project, SMART (Horse Therapy), Black Nurses Rock, Vera Bradley Breast Cancer Foundation, Longboat Turtle Watch, local schools, and more.

Starting in 2020, Painting with a Twist is partnering with Shelter Manatee to help raise the $2 million needed for our new animal shelter. Throughout the year, they’ll donate 10% of all proceeds from all of their Paint Your Pet events. They’ll also be selling items in the studio, sending staff to volunteer at Shelter Manatee’s events, hosting Coffee Conversations, and more.

If you’ve never been to Painting with a Twist, now is the time to try it out! This unique and memorable experience focuses on creating “fun art, not fine art.” No experience is necessary and it’s always a great time.

When you arrive, you’ll have everything you need to create your masterpiece: a blank canvas, paints, brushes, and a friendly and enthusiastic local artist to guide you through the process step-by-step. This is much more than a painting class. Here you’ll find music, laughter, and, sometimes, even some dancing! You’re welcome to bring your own beverages and some snacks, but don’t worry about cups, plates, napkins, or bottle openers — they’ve got that covered for you.

Prior to a Paint Your Pet class, you’ll provide them with a picture of your pet and they’ll pre-sketch the image onto your canvas for you. Just like the other classes, an instructor will be on hand to provide step-by-step guidance. By the end of the night, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind painting that you can bring home and cherish forever.

If you’re ready to uncork your inner artist, now is the time to do it!

Check out Painting with a Purpose benefitting Crime Stoppers on Wednesday, December 4th. Also, don’t miss your chance to Paint Your Pet before the holidays. The next class is scheduled for Saturday, December 14th. (HINT: These paintings make great holiday gifts!)

Painting with a Twist is also the perfect place to celebrate your next special occasion. They host birthday parties for both children and adults, team building events, bachelorette parties, wedding or baby showers, reunions, social or civic groups, and more!

The Bradenton studio is located at 5917 Manatee Ave. W. in the Pebble Springs Plaza, right by Bella Mia Pizza. Take a look at Painting with a Twist’s calendar to learn more about all the other cool classes coming up. You can also follow Painting with a Twist on Facebook and follow Shelter Manatee to keep up with the latest happenings.

Want to learn more about how your nonprofit can host a Painting with a Purpose event? Hope and Sheri are always looking for local organizations that need their help and want to have a TON of fun raising money. Once your event is scheduled, they’ll help promote your organization and you’ll work together to fill up the room. During the event, you’ll have the chance to hold raffles and share information about your organization.

Contact Painting with a Twist to learn about available months. These spots fill up fast, so it’s best to plan your event at least six months in advance.
