Next Wednesday, April 21st, Centerstone is hosting their annual Sexual Assault Awareness Day at Sutton Park in Palmetto from 4 pm to 6 pm. This year’s theme is “Stronger Together Engaging Communities.” It underscores the importance of spreading community awareness and giving victims the support and encouragement they need while acknowledging the trauma by sharing, talking, and working through the healing process.
This year’s event will include a community art competition, a “survivor’s testimonies” and art display, agency resource and vendor booths, live music, door prizes, and more.
According to Charles Whitfield, the Vice President of Community Care, “Sexual assault can occur in any setting, to persons of any age or gender. The resulting trauma can be devastating, whether the assault was recent or in years past.”
Sexual Assault has become a worldwide problem that affects people of all ages and genders. This is why acknowledgment and community awareness play such a significant role. Whitfield went on to say that “Centerstone will be hosting the Sexual Assault Awareness Day in support of and to empower survivors to speak out, raise awareness, and rally support around this important issue.”
