On Halloween Night, Sunday, October 31st, there will be a very special return of the annual “1,000 Pieces of Candy”. This will be the event’s 5th year and is hosted by Alcover Massage, a company located in The Village Of The Arts. It is a family-friendly happening that features 1,000 pieces of candy handed out throughout the evening to children trick-or-treating on Halloween from 5 pm – 9 pm. In addition, local children’s advocacy organizations are welcomed to the festivities. Alcover Massage is proud to announce that ALSO Youth will be joining the event. ALSO, Youth is a nonprofit organization serving Sarasota and Manatee Counties LGBTQ+ youth community. They empower LGBTQ+ youth and their Allies ages 10-24 by providing a safe space and educating our communities on inclusion. In addition, ALSO awards educational scholarships and even hosts the annual Turkey Trot. More about ALSO can be found on their website https://www.alsoyouth.org/. As part of the national Teal Pumpkin Project, there will be gluten-free and peanut-free candies along with candy-free alternatives available for children with dietary restrictions. Halloween is a magical night where children get to dress up as anyone they want to be and visit homes in their community in search of candy. For kids with gluten or other allergies, it’s an inconvenience having to decline candy that cannot be eaten. The Teal Pumpkin project informs the public about providing allergen-safe candies so more children can enjoy the holiday to the fullest. Last year, this event was canceled as a precautionary measure due to Covid-19. This year, with so many people vaccinated and mandates lifted, more Halloween events are sure to return. Alcover Massage, like many other businesses and organizations last Ms. Alcover loves Halloween and has even been a Scare-actor for Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Studios Orlando and the Paranormal Cirque. 1,000 Pieces of Candy is a family-themed event that combines her passion for the holiday with her gluten-free lifestyle. Said Laura, “With ALSO, this is going to be a fun and welcoming Halloween for the whole family and with Teal Pumpkin options, this event offers a little more dietary options for everyone.” If individuals wish to donate new children’s books to be given out for the event, call or text Laura Alcover at 407-690-0533. Books are requested to please be new, in good condition, and be appropriate for readers between the ages of 0 to 14 years old.

year had to cancel beloved holiday events. This year with the return of Halloween festivities, Alcover Massage is introducing additions to the event. Children’s books will be given out along with candy because Laura Alcover LMT, SET, owner and manager of Alcover Massage, feels Halloween is a perfect opportunity for positive community outreach. Laura mentions, “I wanted to add giving away books last year because candy is fun and reading can be, too. What’s a perfect opportunity to put books in children’s hands than on Halloween?”
