ArtCenter Manatee: Nights Out - Mosaic Coaster with Donna Slawsky

In this 3 hour introduction to mosaics we will complete a coaster tile project. The start of the session will include a description of mosaics, a few basic terms used, description of glues, tools, safety issues, and types of materials (surfaces and pieces used to apply to the surface). Books with examples of mosaic art will be provided for browsing while waiting for the glue to dry. Each student will have a coaster to work on with a simple drawing of a fish or flower (there will be a selection to choose from). Students will then learn how to cut glass using both glass cutters and tile cutters/nippers, in addition to a demonstration of how to apply the glue. We’ll use quick drying glue so that the piece can be grouted during the last half hour. Students will be provided with a hand-out that goes into more detail than time will permit for this session. Includes all supplies, complimentary beer or wine and snacks. Ages 21+
