Manatee Village Historical Park Curator Matt Woodside will present “Making a Living Off the Land: Manatee County’s First Industries” on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.
Sugar production was the principal industry in this area during the early pioneering period. As Florida’s population continued to grow, other industries began to flourish, including commercial fishing, turpentine, cow hunting, and of course agriculture. This lecture explores how settlers in the mid-19th century through the early 20th century made a living by taking advantage of readily available natural resources of the land.
Lectures are held in the Wiggins Store Conference Room starting at 3 p.m. Admission is free. Seating is limited, first come first served basis.
