Our quarterly [think + drink] / science program transforms The Planetarium into a forum for learning, conversation, and connection with thought-provoking science and inspiring speakers. Each speaker is a subject-matter expert who gives a thought-provoking presentation on their area of expertise, then opens the floor for questions and discussion. Enjoy conversation over drinks on the patio before and after the program.
As we continue our 75th Anniversary Year of Light Museum Experience theme for 2022, Michelle Schuman joins us to discuss how the light we produce disrupts natural experiences of light on Earth. Light pollution is a global problem on this planet, impacting not only our view of the universe but also the wildlife that shares our planet. Michelle will incorporate the sky-revealing powers of The Bishop’s digital Planetarium to help share the beauty of unfettered natural light.
Michelle’s passion for nature and travel steered her to an adventurous career in wildlife biology in Alaska, before recently moving tt Florida. After she retired in 2017 from USDA, she wrote her memoir, The Understory: A Female Environmentalist in the Land of the Midnight Sun. A female-forward production company optioned her life story before it hit the presses. She holds a B.S. degree in Wildlife Biology and Range Management, a Minor in Soils Science, and a Master’s in Environmental Policy and Wetland Science.
