The Anna Maria Island Historical Society and Museum was established in 1990 to collect, research, preserve and exhibit materials and artifacts relating to the history of all three cities making up Anna Maria Island. From the museum, city jail, Belle Haven Cottage and Nature Park, the museum is an excellent collection of exhibits that both residents and visitors will find interesting and engaging. Kids can take part in our Scavenger Hunt that takes place all throughout the museum. Stop by the City Jail, the second most popular attraction on Anna Maria, tour the Belle Haven Cottage to see how island folks lived back in the day or relax among native island foliage and trees in our nature park right on the water. Pick up a memento from our gift shop. Our traveling educational program helps to preserve the heritage of our beautiful seven-mile jewel. Historical Society members visit churches and civic organizations to make the history of the Island come alive for students, residents, and visitors from all walks of life. We rely on donations and memberships to keep the museum free to the public.
